Three months of taxi adventures in Berlin led to more deliciousness than I could have imagined before I landed in the German capital.

I expected to find great curry wurst and develop an addiction to döner kebab. What I didn’t expect were near-perfect Vietnamese curries (at Hamy), spectacular kofte (at Gel Gör), espresso as good as Italy’s (at La Vigna), and kidney beans worth a tram ride to Weissensee (at La Bandida). Berlin cabbies led me to all of this and more.

This map shows every restaurant I found during my Berlin taxi adventures that I think is worth going back to.

I’ve also included my own taxi driver-inspired food finds, many of which were suggestions from Berliners who know their way around what’s cheap and tasty in their city. (Thank you, my new food-loving friends!)

If you have a chance to try any of these spots, feel free to tell me what you think.

Meanwhile, stay tuned: I plan on coming back to Berlin in April 2011 to go on more taxi adventures and add some new flavors to this map.

  1. Cool to have them all conveniently on a map. A perfect variety of great eats. I have discovered and enjoyed a lot of fantastic food at good prices through your suggestions (though I’ve lived here for nearly a decade and thought I had it all covered)! That’s priceless, thanks!!!

    • And I’ve discovered a lot of fantastic food in places I never would have found – thanks to your Berlin restaurant wisdom. Can’t wait to break bread again in the spring.
