The Vintage Charm of the 2025 Rolex GMT-Master II

Rolex GMT-Master II 2025 For many, the Rolex GMT-Master II evokes nostalgia, particularly the classic reference 16710, which adorned my computer background in the late 1990s. Initially, my passion for gold developed later, yet the GMT-Master in precious metal remains one of my all-time favorites. The gold models, especially the replica Rolex GMT-Master II, have a rich history, with the ref. 16758 being a personal favorite, alongside my colleague Mike’s cherished 16718 model.

Rolex reignited excitement in 2018 with the Everose gold GMT-Master II 126715CHNR. This year, they further expanded the lineup with the yellow gold reference 126718GRNR and the Rolesor model, ref. 126713GRNR. Unlike previous iterations, these new models exclusively feature a Jubilee bracelet.  Rolex GMT-Master

The Jubilee bracelet is one of the most comfortable options available. I own one on a Datejust, the first Rolex to debut this style in 1945. Over the years, Rolex has refined the Jubilee, resulting in a supple design with an iconic aesthetic and an Easylink comfort extension that adds an extra 5mm in length. The GMT-Master II on a Jubilee bracelet truly captures that vintage essence reminiscent of the “Root Beer” models from decades past.

For those who crave the vintage vibe, acquiring a gold Rolex GMT-Master, such as the 16758 or 16718, is an option, or you might even find a true vintage model like the 1675/8. However, purchasing the new 2025 Rolex GMT-Master II at the retail price of €38,800 puts it in a similar price range to well-maintained pre-owned models.

I would lean towards the modern 2025 Rolex GMT-Master in gold. Its solid bracelet contrasts with older models featuring hollow links, and the ceramic bezel with a Cerachrom insert adds a contemporary touch to a timeless design. Inside, the Rolex caliber 3285 guarantees accuracy within ±2 seconds per day, exceeding chronometer standards and offering a robust power reserve of 70 hours.

Additionally, the bi-color Rolesor version (ref. 126713GRNR) has garnered attention. While some colleagues prefer this model for its gray bezel complementing the steel components, I find that in reality, the gray isn’t significantly distinct from the black, making both versions visually appealing.

The retail price for the 2025 Rolex GMT-Master II 126713GRNR is €16,450. This Rolesor variant shares the vintage allure of the full-gold 126718GRNR. Notably, a Rolex GMT-Master II 16713 in good condition can be found for slightly less, allowing for a truly neo-vintage option.

Having owned several replica watches with GMT complications, including the GMT-Master II (16710), I assert that the modern GMT-Master II is unparalleled. This watch features a flyer GMT function, allowing independent adjustment of the 12-hour hand while using the bezel for a 24-hour indication or a third time zone. The ceramic bezel clicks smoothly hour by hour, and the Jubilee bracelet adds to its desirability, creating an iconic appearance. Furthermore, the backstory linking the GMT-Master to Pan Am enhances its charm, illustrating its development in collaboration with real pilots.

Rolex’s subtle changes often have a profound impact. Simple additions, such as a new color or bracelet style, can yield impressive results. Although the 18K Everose Rolex GMT-Master II 126715CHNR was my top choice for precious metals, the introduction of the yellow gold version on a Jubilee bracelet has captured my admiration.

At Watches and Wonders, the clone Rolex GMT-Master II models – both in full gold and Rolesor – left a lasting impression. While other watches may boast advanced technology or superior finishing, the GMT-Master II with a Jubilee bracelet stands out as an attractive sports watch with a practical complication.
